+++ Assault Squad Hadeon +++

Models Finished: February 2004

I am very pleased with how these miniatures turned out. The bases are interesting and bring extra height to some of the models, suggesting that they leap forwards/upwards.

This squad will be led by Librarian Bezalel, do check out his gallery.

Conversion details:

Modeling-wise, they have all been converted to some extent; arms extended outwards, weapons swapped and/orattached at new angles, etc. Vampire fangs are made out of green stuff as usual. Purity seals are made of tinfoil from wine-bottles and green stuff.

Painting details:

With these models, I have changed my old recipee for painting red somewhat:

The models are first undercoated with Chaos Black, then the area that will be red is drybrushed with Scab Red. This gives a good texture and helps the next step, which is carefully painting 3-4 layers of red gore, thinned with at least an equal amount of water. In this step I build up a strong red, but leave recesses darker.

In the next step I add some Blood Red (and more water) to the Red Gore mix. This is added as a highlight layer and helps emphasizing raised and exposed areas.

After Blood Red, I add a small amount of Dwarf Flesh to the mix and apply this rather pink colour as a fine, final highlight at armour edges etc.

I now blacklined the red areas using an equal amounts mix of Black/Brown inks and water.

When everything was dry, I finally painted the area with un-dilluted Red Ink (without letting it form into puddles).

Tip: Before applying inks to a model, always add a tiny drop of washing-up soap or acrylic floor wax. This breaks the surface tension and ensures that no ugly marks or puddles appear when the inks dry.
